Our Adoption Process

Our goal is to place the dogs we rescue in happy, healthy homes that are well suited to their particular needs and temperaments. It is equally important that our new dog owners find the dog that is right for them. To ensure this, we require potential adopters to submit an application and will schedule a home visit with the new dog prior to executing an adoption contract. Adoption fees will be held for a two week trial period before the adoption is finalized. You can meet any of our FURS dogs available for adoption by stopping by our monthly adoption stand. 1. Application Form

You can fill out our adoption form online or at our adoption stand in Carytown on Saturdays.

2. Home Visit

If your application is approved, we will schedule a home visit with the dog you wish to adopt in order to meet other family members and current pets. A home visit by a FURS volunteer is a requirement for every adoption, so we do not place our dogs outside of the Richmond area.

3. Adoption Contract

If the home visit goes well, we will provide you with an adoption contract and collect the $100 adoption fee at that time. We will hold the fee during a two week trial period prior to finalizing the adoption.

Our adoption contract stipulates that if at any time or for any reason you are unable to keep a dog you adopted from FURS, the dog must be returned to our organization. FURS dogs placed for adoption will always have a home with us should things not work out.
